Situated in Central Anatolia, like so many other carpet weaving centers in the wider Konya district, Kirsehir has a long history in carpets. The vast majority of the surviving antique rugs are mainly small pieces, either of the prayer type or of those with a characteristic vine formation, which covers the main field of the rug. The one in our collection, made in the 1870’s, belongs to the second type, but has an uncommon, very attractive, bright red field which adds to the beauty and rarity of the piece and makes it a collector’s item.
