Situated in the central north western Iran the City of Mahal has been a fairly recent carpet producing center, initiating during the middle of the 19th century. The do not claim to be of a fine weave, but in the meantime they are very popular in our days, due to their soft colors and quite unsophisticated designs.the proximity with the city of Arak – Sultanabad where the first Ziegler type carpets were made during the last quarter of the 19th century, is the reason why some carpets that were made there, resemble exactly that famous style. Ours is a typical such example made around 1900.
