The Ikat fabrics of Central Asia, were mainly woven in Uzbekistan. Some of these luxurious silk textiles, whether velvet or flat, are real works of art. Dyed with a method called “resist dyeing”, they are usually woven in 40 cm wide strips. In olden days, they were sawn together to form a larger fabric and then tailored to become the formal dress of prominent members of the local society. Due to their very impressive appearance, they were also used as panels. The ones produced massively nowadays are used as upholstery fabrics due to their high degree of popularity.
